Since its inception, Benson & Bohl Architects has designed numerous infill projects that capture the image and vitality of their urban environments. Grocery stores, restaurants, theaters, churches, multifamily residential, and parking structures are examples of the infill uses that we have completed in urban and downtown locations. Our approach to designing within dense and often historic and culturally significant urban communities always includes researching the background and culture of the site in order to create an architectural design that extends and enhances the established character of its place. We believe that distinctive design can be achieved in harmony with the scale, rhythm and detail of the existing context rather than provoking a deliberate contrast of styles. For the last 25 years, Benson & Bohl Architects has been key contributor to the successful redevelopment of the San Diego Gaslamp, East Village, and Marina District, which are recognized nationwide as successful models of urban revitalization.
